What
We are looking for an ethnographer to join the rest of the technical crew (photographer, film-maker etc) in order to document the workshops, and produce a series of rigorous but accessible reports for a wide audience.
Who
A student/recent graduate with experience in qualitative ethnographic methods, specifically in-situ observations and short interviews, and report writing. Experience with creative methods (design, crafts, and performance) and working with creative practitioners is required. A moderate knowledge of Greek language is mandatory. Willingness to participate, when necessary and possible, in general duties regarding the facilitation of the communal program is also expected. The successful candidate will liaise with Paris Selinas, designer and PhD Candidate, University of Bristol, and Dimitris Skourogiannis, experience designer and principle organizer of the Periplus project.
Fields of expertise
The ideal candidate will hold (or will be close to completion of) a BSc or MSc degree (preferable) in the fields of arts, design, social sciences, and/or humanities, such as organization studies, sociology, design, anthropology and so on, and previous experience in areas such as social innovation, circular economy, design ethnography, communities of practice or similar.
Process and Outputs
The ethnographer will work in a situated fashion, with a community of creative people for a period of two weeks (two themes, one week each) in the area of Mani, Greece. She/he will observe and document their interactions within their group, and across the group and local agents, such as small businesses, organizations and local authorities. The ethnographer will aim to decipher the impact these actions have on the Periplus participants and the local community, and make a link with the wider challenges and opportunities presented by recent developments on sustainability, innovation, and design, within the Greek socioeconomic context. Early findings and next directions will be gathered in a rigorous report designed for a non-academic audience. The report will be used to disseminate the activities of the Periplus workshops, and demonstrate its impact. The ethnographer is also expected to contribute with his/hers and knowledge to other project outputs, such as short promotional clips, acting as a consultant and part of a vibrant team.

Fee and benefits
A fixed fee of 1000 euros is offered. An invoice will be required for the payment of the above amount. Accommodation and food for the duration of the stay, as well as local transportation costs, are covered. The successful candidate will have to pay for transportation to the research site.
