The Association of Social Anthropologists Greece (SKAE), in collaboration with the Institute of Historical Research / National Hellenic Research Foundation (ERC-funded Project MUTE), and the Athens Ethnographic Film Festival-Ethnofest, invites you to a screening of the film A POR POR FUNERAL FOR ASHIRIFIE – Jazz Cosmopolitanism in Accra Series [color, 60 min, 2009], with the presence of the film’s creator and renowned American anthropologist of sound Steven Feld (Distinguished Professor, Univ. of New Mexico).
The event will take place in the always hospitable ASTOR Cinema (Korai Square, Athens) on Sunday 14/4/2024 at 13.00
The screening will be followed by a discussion with fellow anthropologist Steven Feld, focusing on the ethics of research in social anthropology and the ethics of listening. Participants in the discussion will be: Panos Panopoulos (associate professor, University of the Aegean), Anna Papaeti (principal investigator of the ERC-funded project MUTE – Soundscapes of Trauma: Music, Sound and the Ethics of Witnessing – https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101002720), and members (postgraduate students and PhD candidates) of the Laboratory of Ethnomusicology and Cultural Anthropology of the Department of Music Studies of the University of Athens, and will be moderated by Pafsanias Karathanasis (co-head of communications and member of the Board of SKAE).
